Involving girls in urban development creates positive change for everyone. When given the opportunity to take part, girls plan and design with diversity and different needs in mind. Research shows that participatory urban development is key to sustainable development. Yet many practitioners still lack guidance on how to put it into practice.

The Her City Toolbox offers a cost-effective solution. This digital toolbox gives professionals and local decision-makers around the world practical tools to integrate age, gender and socioeconomic perspectives by meaningfully involving girlsin planning, design and implementation.

Her City is a joint initiative of Shared City Foundation and UN-Habitat (the United Nations Human Settlements Programme). The toolbox was developed with urban development experts and practitioners, with funding from Swedish public sources (2017–2022) and contributions from the private sector.
