“It is in the city that the fight for a sustainable future is decided”
About Shared City
Shared City is an independent and non-profit foundation that builds long-term capacity for inclusive urban development at all levels.
We provide practical tools and create platforms for collaboration and knowledge exchange. In line with global frameworks, the foundation works to strengthen the position, conditions and participation of vulnerable groups in urban development all over the world. Our projects mainly focus on proximity and participatory practices for intersectional urban development - creating inclusive and resilient cities.
Shared City is home to projects and partnerships focused on local implementation of Agenda 2030 and the new urban agenda. Shared City facilitates the Her City Toolbox in partnership with UN-Habitat and host the Sweden Local 2030 Hub. The foundation also has an ongoing partnership with the Global Observatory of Sustainable Proximities at Sorbonne University.
Shared City Foundation is headquartered in Stockholm and was established in 2023.
Our Vision
Shared City Foundation mission is to strengthen the position, opportunity and participation of groups at risk of marginalisation in urban development all over the world.
The foundation's purpose is to, in accordance with global frameworks for human rights and sustainable urban development, strengthen the position, opportunity and participation of groups at risk of marginalisation in urban development all over the world. Our aim is to create socially, economically and environmentally sustainable societies by implementing the 2030 Agenda and the New Urban Agenda locally.

PARTNER NETWORKS
In joint initiatives with public, civil society and community organisations, our toolbox creates platforms for collaboration and knowledge exchange, to implement sustainable local city projects.
DIRECT IMPACT
Participatory processes empower, support and ensure the sustainable planning and design of sustainable cities.
Our Programmes
HER CITY TOOLBOX
Her City is our participatory methodology and digital toolbox that supports more inclusive urban development with girls and young women at the centre. With UN-Habitat, we turn local knowledge into actionable urban solutions, co-creating safer, more inclusive and more equitable cities.
RESILIENT RECONSTRUCTION
Shared City supports rebuilding processes in crisis-affected contexts through locally rooted, participatory and resilient approaches. We focus on community-led processes to strengthen local capacity for recovery and reconstruction.
SUSTAINABLE PROXIMITY
With Prof. Carlos Moreno's research team at Chaire ETI, Sorbonne University, Shared City promotes the 15-minute city concept — ensuring all residents have access to essential services within a short walk or bike ride, creating people-centred, liveable neighbourhoods.
